The Master of Music in Suzuki Pedagogy and Performance is available to qualified violinists, violists, cellists, flutists and pianists. The degree combines advanced performance and academic studies with an in-depth Suzuki Education curriculum and the development of teaching skills through observations, practice and apprentice teaching.
The Master of Music degree in Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy and Certificate in Suzuki Pedagogy combine advanced performance and academic studies in music with in-depth study of the Suzuki Method and development of teaching skills through observations, practice and apprentice teaching. The program leads to certification through the Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA).
This degree program is a collaboarion with the Music Institute of Chicago (MIC), a nonprofit community music school with a unique concentration of teacher trainers on its faculty, including Anne Montzka-Smelser, Shigetoshi Yamada, Sarah Montzka for violin and viola; Tanya Carey and Avi Friedlander for cello; and Merrit Bitticks for flute. With more than 400 Suzuki students, MIC provides an unparalleled opportunity for pedagogical observation and practice teaching. The school also teaches Suzuki students piano, guitar and recorder.
