About Me

Nick Sula is a pianist and vocal coach, active in the Chicago theatre and cabaret community for over 20 years. He has served as an award-winning music director, chorus master, and pit musician for theatre companies including Kokandy Productions, Porchlight Music Theatre, BoHo Theatre, Music Theatre Works, Black Button Eyes Productions, and more. His compositions and arrangements have been performed on stage and on national television. He has performed as music director, arranger, and accompanist for vocalists and cabaret performers including Denise Tomasello, Deborah Darr, Karen Mason, and André DeShields. A graduate of DePaul University School of Music, he studied classical piano with Melody Lord and jazz piano with Alan Swain. Here at CCPA, he is currently serving as the Coordinator of Theatre Music Direction, and as instructor, music director, and vocal coach in the Theatre Conservatory.

"In my instruction and collaboration, I strive to empower students to explore and grow in musical fluency, so they may express themselves confidently in their musicianship and in their professional relationships. As an instructor, music director, and collaborative pianist, I offer encouragement, support, and patience, while fostering a comfortable and creative learning environment. My goal is to enable students to find their own voices, and to encourage them to listen and support each other - to celebrate growth in their peers as well as in themselves. I help my students prepare for their professional rehearsal and performance careers, and along the way, share our joy and enthusiasm for musical expression!"
